Sculptural draping, exposed corsetry and the sweeping proportions of a full skirt defined Maddie’s custom Antoinette Fusillo wedding dress. Created for her celebration at Metropolis Events in Melbourne, the gown brought together the romance of a classic ballgown with a distinctly contemporary approach to bridal couture.
Maddie was pure joy from the beginning. Full of love, warmth and laughter, she brought an energy to every appointment that made our journey together incredibly special. Designing a bespoke wedding dress is deeply collaborative, and over the course of the couture process, the fittings become moments in themselves. Conversations are shared, ideas evolve and gradually, a gown that once existed as a vision begins to feel entirely her own.

Maddie’s gown centred on a beautifully structured bodice, shaped to the body with exposed corsetry boning through the waist. The corset created a defined and architectural foundation for the drama to come.
Layers of fabric were carefully manipulated into sweeping folds, forming a sculptural neckline that framed Maddie’s décolletage. The balance between the visible boning and fluid draping gave the bodice its distinctive character, combining traditional couture construction with a modern bridal sensibility.
From the defined waistline, the silhouette opened into a voluminous ballgown skirt. Draping continued across the hips, creating movement through the fabric and drawing the eye into the natural lines of the gown. A high split revealed the leg as Maddie moved, adding a confident detail to the fullness of the skirt.
A delicate tulle veil completed the bridal look. Light and ethereal against the sculptural quality of the dress.
A custom Antoinette Fusillo wedding dress is shaped through a series of considered stages, from the earliest design conversations to the development of the pattern, corsetry, draping and final hand finishing.
Throughout Maddie’s fittings, each element was refined directly on her body. The structure of the corset was developed to create the desired silhouette, while the draping was manipulated by hand to achieve its final placement. The fall of the skirt, positioning of the drapes, height of the split and proportion of the train all became part of creating a gown specifically for Maddie.
These appointments also form a unique part of the bridal experience. Over time, the atelier becomes a place where anticipation builds and the wedding begins to feel increasingly real. There is laughter, conversation and the excitement of watching the dress transform with every fitting.

It was also bittersweet, marking the close of a chapter we had shaped together over months of fittings and shared moments.
There is a beautiful bond that develops throughout the bespoke process. We come to know our brides beyond measurements and silhouettes. We hear about their wedding plans, share in their excitement and watch as the day they have been imagining moves closer.
Then comes the moment we send them off.
Maddie left the atelier with a gown made entirely for her and with so many memories woven into the experience of creating it. Seeing those first photographs from her wedding, full of the love, laughter and happiness that defined her from the beginning, brought the entire journey full circle.
