DANICA
A Sound of Music Romance
Schloss Leopoldskron, Salzburg, a grand lace wedding gown and a bride with the most beautiful sense of joy. Danica’s wedding felt wonderfully cinematic, held at the exact location where The Sound of Music was filmed, surrounded by the palace, gardens, lake and mountains.
For her wedding day, Danica wore a custom Antoinette Fusillo wedding dress, created in the Melbourne atelier and designed specifically around her vision, personality and sense of style.

The gown centred around a beautifully sculptural high neckline, creating a graceful vertical line through the bodice. Intricate lace extended across the fitted bodice and long sleeves, with delicate embellishment woven throughout the design. The intricate lace detailing caught the light, creating a soft glisten across the lace and adding another layer of dimension to the gown.
From the waist, the silhouette opened into a magnificent full ballgown skirt. Generous volume and sweeping folds created a beautiful sense of movement, flowing into a long, dramatic train that extended behind her. The intricate lace brought delicacy to the upper silhouette, while the expansive skirt and train created the grandeur of a true couture wedding gown.
And then there was Danica.
Having Danica throughout the fitting process was such a joy. Her warmth, excitement and cheerful personality became such an important part of the experience. With every appointment, the relationship between Danica and Antoinette grew, creating a beautiful bond that became just as meaningful as the gown itself.
There is something incredibly personal about creating a bride’s wedding gown. You spend months together, getting to know her, refining the design and watching her vision gradually become a reality. With Danica, every fitting was filled with conversation, laughter and genuine excitement for what was to come.
As the gown came together, so did the anticipation of seeing Danica wear it on her wedding day.
The final fitting was one of those moments that stays with you. Seeing Danica in her completed gown for the first time, knowing that she was about to take it with her to Europe and walk down the aisle in it, was filled with so much happiness and emotion. After months of fittings and watching each detail come together, it was time to send the gown off on its journey to Salzburg.
There is something incredibly beautiful about that final moment in the atelier. You see your bride standing in the gown she has dreamed about, knowing that the next time you see her, she will be wearing it on one of the most important days of her life.
Danica captured that feeling perfectly in the handwritten card she gave to Antoinette...
Dearest Antoinette,
Thank you for this incredible journey you have taken me on and creating my dream wedding gown. You have made me feel like a real-life princess and I cannot wait to walk down the aisle in your masterpiece. Not only are you one of the sweetest and kindest souls I have met, but you are without a doubt the most talented and skilled designer. From the moment I saw your work, I just knew in my heart that you had to design my gown. Your honesty, passion and attention to detail are qualities that I truly cherish.
Looking forward to seeing you when I come back from Europe. Like you said, it’s never goodbye!
Lots of Love From,
Danica May Athner xx
And then came Schloss Leopoldskron.
The setting could not have been more fitting. With its grand architecture, tranquil lake and surrounding mountains, the palace carries the same enchanting European elegance that made it such an iconic setting for The Sound of Music.
Danica brought her own magic to it.
Her hair was swept into a polished chignon and finished with a delicate jewelled tiara, paired with elegant earrings and her signature red lips. Her radiant smile and natural grace brought an unmistakable sense of personality to the couture look.
Against the gardens and lake, the gown feels completely at home.
There is also something particularly lovely about seeing a Melbourne-designed couture gown arrive in such a historic European setting. The journey from the atelier to Schloss Leopoldskron gives the gown another chapter, one that began with Danica sitting in the fitting room and ended with her standing in her completed gown, ready to walk down the aisle.

For Antoinette, creating Danica’s gown was about more than the finished piece. It was the relationship built throughout the process, the excitement shared at each fitting and the privilege of watching a bride step into something created especially for her.
Danica’s wedding day brought together everything that had made the journey so memorable: craftsmanship, romance, European elegance and, most importantly, the bride herself.
At the very place where The Sound of Music created its own timeless story, Danica created hers.
